This one plays differently from most Community Days. Zorua normally appears on the map disguised as your Buddy Pokémon, and the announcement doesn’t say whether that changes for the event. That affects how you should hunt for a Shiny, so it gets its own section below.

Featured Attack: Sucker Punch
The announcement lists Sucker Punch as a Fast Attack, not a Charged Attack. Some early event recaps showed a placeholder Charged Attack, so go by the official post.
The announcement does not publish Sucker Punch’s damage or energy values. If you’re evolving for PvP or raids, check current move data once the event is live before spending Candy on a large batch.

Shiny and Special Background Zorua
The announcement says wild Zorua can be Shiny or have a Special Background. Since January 2026, Community Day featured Pokémon can carry a yearly Special Background, so this is a new collection variant for many players.
Research and Tickets
- Field Research: Community Day tasks reward Stardust, Ultra Balls, and extra Zorua encounters. Some tasks lead to Zorua with a Special Background.
- Special Research (US$1.99 or local equivalent): Rewards include 3 Special Background Zorua encounters, additional Zorua encounters, 1 Premium Battle Pass, and 1 Rare Candy XL. It has no medal and no story.
- Gifting: You can buy the ticket for a friend at Great Friends or higher. Tap the ticket in the in-game shop, then tap Gift. Gifting fails if the recipient already bought or received one.

Community Observations: Zorua’s Disguise
None of this is in the announcement. It comes from community documentation (the Pokémon GO Wiki and GO Hub) built up since Zorua’s release in 2022. Treat it as well-observed behavior that the developer could change for this event.
- Zorua looks like your buddy. Community wikis report that wild Zorua appear on the map disguised as your current Buddy Pokémon and only reveal themselves after you catch them.
- The disguise copies visual traits. The Pokémon GO Wiki reports it copies your buddy’s Shiny status, costume, and Shadow or Purified aura. None of that carries over to the Zorua you catch. A Shiny buddy therefore makes every disguised Zorua look Shiny on the map.
- A Zorua buddy skips the disguise. The same source reports that if Zorua is your buddy, wild Zorua can be caught normally without the transformation animation.
- Changing your buddy doesn’t update existing spawns. Zorua already on the map keep their old disguise.
- Shiny rate: The developer confirms a boosted Shiny rate but doesn’t publish it. The long-running community estimate for Community Day is about 1 in 25. No tracker data exists for this event yet.
- Evolution cost: Community wikis list Zorua’s evolution at 50 Candy, matching the in-game evolve cost shown on a Zorua’s detail screen.
- Zoroark in PvP: GO Hub’s launch analysis rated Zoroark’s standard Fast Attacks (Shadow Claw and Snarl) well but called out its very low bulk. Whether Sucker Punch changes that depends on values the announcement hasn’t published.
Practical Application: How to Play Zorua Community Day
Set your buddy before 2:00 p.m.
If the disguise works as usual, your buddy choice decides how easy the day is. Two approaches:
- You already own a Zorua: Make it your buddy before the event starts. If the community reports hold, wild Zorua should then appear normally, and you can check each encounter for a Shiny the usual way.
- You don’t own one: Pick a buddy that never spawns in the wild, like a Legendary. Anything on the map that looks like it is almost certainly a Zorua. Avoid a Shiny buddy, since the disguise copies the Shiny look. Once you catch a Zorua, you can switch it to buddy, but Zorua already on the map won’t change.
If the disguise is active and you can’t see the real Zorua until it’s caught, tapping and running away to check for a Shiny won’t work. In that case, catch every Zorua you find.
A sample afternoon
Say you arrive at a park with several PokéStops at 1:50 p.m., with a Zorua from last Halloween set as your buddy and a Lucky Egg in your bag. At 2:00 p.m. you activate the Lucky Egg, which stacks with the 3× Catch XP bonus, and start an Incense so it runs the full three hours.
At 2× Candy, each Zorua catch gives more Candy than normal, so you should reach 50 Candy for your first evolution within roughly ten catches. Pinap Berries speed that up. Evolve your best-IV Zorua before 9:00 p.m. to get Sucker Punch.
After 5:00 p.m., the main spawns end but the Lure bonus doesn’t. Drop a regular Lure Module at a stop near home. It lasts one hour, and Zorua attracted to it can still be Shiny or have a Special Background. Golden Lure Modules don’t count.
Preparation checklist
- Set your buddy before spawns load at 2:00 p.m.
- Hold your Lucky Egg until 2:00 p.m. XP is this event’s multiplier, not Stardust.
- Don’t start Incense early. Only Incense activated during the event gets three hours.
- Save a few regular Lures for the evening. The Lure bonus runs until 9:00 p.m.
- Clear storage and stock Ultra Balls and Pinap Berries.
- Line up a trade for the 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. window to use the extra Special Trade and cheaper Stardust.
Tracking What You Catch
This event adds a variant most collections don’t have yet: the Special Background Zorua, on top of the Shiny. You’ll also end the day with a pile of Zorua and Zoroark, some with Sucker Punch and some without, and in-game storage doesn’t make it easy to see which ones are worth keeping for PvP.
