Crowned Shield Zamazenta is a Fighting / Steel Legendary that appears in five-star raids. It is weak to Fighting, Fire and Ground attacks.
Defeating it gives you Crowned Shield Energy and a chance to catch Zamazenta. The Zamazenta you catch is the Hero of Many Battles form, so a 100% IV catch is 2188 CP, or 2735 CP when weather boosted.
This Crowned Shield Zamazenta raid guide covers which counters to bring, why the usual Zamazenta counters don’t work here, how many players you need, and how to earn a Crowned Shield Zamazenta of your own.

Best Crowned Shield Zamazenta Counters
Three weaknesses gives you a wide choice. Community simulations from GO Hub mix Fighting, Fire and Ground attackers at the top. These are the top ten from their counters database:
| # | Counter | Fast Move | Charged Move | Type of damage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mega Mewtwo X | Counter | Dynamic Punch+ | Fighting |
| 2 | Mega Blaziken | Fire Spin | Aura Sphere | Fire / Fighting |
| 3 | Mega Delphox | Fire Spin | Blast Burn | Fire |
| 4 | Blacephalon | Incinerate | Mind Blown | Fire |
| 5 | Shadow Reshiram | Fire Fang | Fusion Flare | Fire |
| 6 | Primal Groudon | Mud Shot | Precipice Blades | Ground |
| 7 | Mega Lucario | Force Palm | Aura Sphere+ | Fighting |
| 8 | Mega Mewtwo Y | Counter | Focus Blast | Fighting |
| 9 | Mega Charizard Y | Fire Spin | Blast Burn+ | Fire |
| 10 | Keldeo (Resolute Forme) | Low Kick | Secret Sword | Fighting |
Counter rankings are from the GO Hub Crowned Shield Zamazenta counters database and raid guide. Moves marked + are event-exclusive moves. A regular Charged TM can’t teach them, so you need a Pokémon that learned the move during an event, or an Elite TM where one works.
Mega Mewtwo X and Y rank here on Counter, a Fighting move. Their Psychic moves only deal neutral damage.
Easier-to-build Crowned Shield Zamazenta counters
If you don’t have the Pokémon above, these options rank in GO Hub’s top 30:
- Fighting: Lucario (Force Palm / Aura Sphere), Keldeo (Low Kick / Sacred Sword), Terrakion (Double Kick / Sacred Sword), Shadow Emboar (Low Kick / Blast Burn).
- Fire: Chandelure (Fire Spin / Overheat), Volcarona (Fire Spin / Overheat), Shadow Blaziken (Fire Spin / Blast Burn), Shadow Darmanitan (Fire Fang / Overheat), Heatran (Fire Spin / Magma Storm).
- Ground: Shadow Excadrill (Mud-Slap / Scorching Sands), Shadow Garchomp (Mud Shot / Earth Power), Therian Forme Landorus (Mud Shot / Sandsear Storm).
- Mega options: Mega Heracross (Counter / Upper Hand), Mega Charizard X (Fire Spin / Blast Burn), Mega Garchomp (Mud Shot / Earth Power).
Counters that don’t work against the Crowned form
The Hero of Many Battles form is pure Fighting, so most Zamazenta advice tells you to bring Psychic, Flying and Fairy types. Crowned Shield Zamazenta is part Steel, and Steel resists all three. Against the Crowned form:
- Psychic, Flying and Fairy attackers deal neutral damage, not super effective.
- Bug, Poison and Rock attackers are double resisted.
If a counter list is mostly Psychic, Flying and Fairy types, it was built for the wrong form.
What the Community Has Documented
- Group size: GO Hub’s counters database estimates about 3 to 4 trainers with top counters. Its raid guide says a trio is possible but recommends 4 to 6 high-level players, and more for lower-level teams.
- Estimates, not guarantees: GO Hub’s faint and time-to-win numbers don’t include damage boosts from other players’ Mega Pokémon, so a real lobby usually goes faster.
- Possible moves: GO Hub lists Metal Claw, Snarl, Ice Fang and Quick Attack, plus Behemoth Bash, Moonblast, Close Combat and Crunch. Fire types resist Metal Claw, Ice Fang, Moonblast and Behemoth Bash. Close Combat hits Mega Lucario and Terrakion super effectively, and Moonblast hits Keldeo and Mega Mewtwo X super effectively. Ice Fang hits Garchomp and Therian Landorus for double super effective damage.
- Energy per raid: at GO Fest 2025, esports.gg reported about 80 to 110 Crowned Energy per raid, with faster wins giving more. At that rate, 1,000 Energy takes roughly 10 to 15 raids.
- Shiny odds: community sources report about 1 in 20 for this raid.
- IV floor: raid catches are widely reported to have at least 10 in each IV. That puts an unboosted Zamazenta between 2100 and 2188 CP, and a boosted one between 2625 and 2735 CP.
Practical Application: Plan Your Zamazenta Raids
Example: it’s Cloudy on Tuesday evening for the Raid Hour. Cloudy boosts Fighting, so Mega Lucario, Keldeo and Mega Mewtwo X hit harder, and the catch is boosted too, up to 2735 CP. The catch: Cloudy also boosts Zamazenta’s Close Combat and Moonblast, which are the two moves that hurt Fighting counters most. On a Sunny day it flips. Your Fire and Ground counters are boosted, none of the boss’s listed moves are, and the catch maxes out at 2188 CP.
A few rules follow from this:
- Cloudy: lead with Fighting, back up with Fire. You get the boost, but expect your Fighting types to faint faster.
- Sunny: lead with Fire. Boosted damage, and Fire types resist most of the listed moves.
- Snowy: avoid Ground. Snow boosts Ice and Steel moves, and Ice Fang is bad news for Garchomp and Landorus.
- Ignore old Zamazenta counter lists. Psychic, Flying and Fairy are neutral against the Crowned form.
- Reuse your Zacian team. Fire and Ground counters work against both Crowned bosses, so you don’t need a separate team for Tuesday. See the Crowned Sword Zacian raid guide.
- Split your 30 Remote Raids. The limit covers both bosses from November 9 to 13. At the reported rate, about 15 raids each is enough for 1,000 Energy of both kinds.
- Check your Zamazenta knows Iron Head before you finish collecting Energy. Only a Zamazenta with Iron Head can transform.
- Check CP on the catch screen. 2188 (or 2735 when boosted) is a 100% IV Zamazenta.
Tracking Your Zamazenta Catches
Zacian and Zamazenta both catch at 2188 CP for a 100% IV, and both can have the Into the Wild Special Background. After two Raid Hours and a week of remote raids, it’s hard to remember which ones you’ve already checked and which one you’re saving Energy for.
A tracker like GoDex can help. Scan a catch screenshot to read CP and IVs, tag the Zamazenta you plan to transform, and mark Shiny and Special Background catches as you go.
