This update adds Pokémon GO raid attacker rankings to the details screen, lets you track male and female variants separately, and lets you swipe between Pokémon without going back to the list.
The last update was about fixing the scanner and getting your own photos into the dex (GoDex 1.1: A Rebuilt IV Scanner and Your Own Pokémon Photos). This one is mostly about what you can do once a Pokémon is in your collection: judge whether it’s worth powering up for raids, and log the variants you couldn’t track before.
Everything below is in version 1.2, out now on iOS and Android.
Raid Attacker Rankings on the Details Screen
Deciding what to power up for raids used to mean leaving the app and checking a tier list somewhere else. The details screen now has a Raid Attacker Rankings section that shows the Pokémon’s tier directly.
Tiers run from S down to D, and each Pokémon also gets a numbered rank so you can see where it sits within the whole list. Shadow versions are ranked separately and marked with a Shadow icon. The section only appears for Pokémon that are on the list, so if you don’t see it, that Pokémon isn’t considered a raid attacker.
There’s a toggle to switch between rankings that include Megas and Primals and rankings that leave them out. That matters because Megas and Primals tend to crowd the top of any raid list, and you can only have one Mega or Primal active at a time. The rest of your team is regular Pokémon, so the version without them is often the more useful one when you’re deciding where your Stardust goes.
Here’s the difference in practice. Say you’re looking at a Pokémon you’ve been saving Candy for. With Megas included, it might sit a tier lower than you expected because Mega Evolutions push everything down. Switch the toggle off and you see where it ranks against the attackers you’ll actually be filling your other five slots with. If it’s near the top of that list, it’s probably a good investment even without a Mega.
The rankings are part of the app’s regular data updates, so they can be refreshed as new attackers and moves arrive.
Male and Female Variants
Some Pokémon look different depending on gender, and some are only available as one. Until now there was nowhere in GoDex to record which you had.
Male and Female are now variant types you can track, alongside the existing ones like Shiny and Lucky. Each has its own icon and is translated in every supported language.
The species data was updated so each Pokémon only shows the genders it actually comes in. Tauros only offers Male, Chansey only offers Female, and genderless Pokémon like Magnemite don’t show either. That keeps your completion numbers honest, since you won’t see an empty slot for a variant that doesn’t exist.
This is most useful for species with a visible difference, such as Pikachu, where the female has a heart-shaped notch at the tip of its tail. If you’re collecting both, you can now see at a glance which one you’re still missing.
Swipe Between Pokémon
Checking several Pokémon used to mean opening one, going back to the list, and opening the next. The details screen now pages left and right, so you can swipe straight from one Pokémon to the next on both iOS and Android.
The swipe follows the list you came from, so if you’ve filtered the Pokédex down to a single type or variant, you can page through just those Pokémon. That pairs well with the new raid rankings: filter to a type, open the first one, and swipe through to compare tiers.
Fixes
- Hiding a variant type on Android now updates your Pokédex properly. Before, if you hid a variant type in Settings while it was an active filter, going back to the Pokédex left it filtering the list. Because the type was hidden, there was no chip left to tap, so there was no way to unselect it. Hiding a type now also removes it from your active filters, and the grid refreshes when you return.
What to Do After Updating
Three things are worth doing on the new version.
Check the raid tier of anything you’re about to power up. Open its details screen and look at the ranking with Megas turned off. If it ranks well there, it’s pulling its weight in a normal raid team. If it only looks good with Megas on, it’s probably not the one to spend on.
Mark your male and female variants. Start with species you know you’ve caught both of, or ones with a visible difference like Pikachu. Your completion count will be more accurate once they’re logged.
On Android, check your Pokédex if it’s looked oddly short. If you hid a variant type in Settings and the grid has seemed filtered ever since, that was this bug. Open the filters and confirm nothing unexpected is selected. If a hidden type is still filtering the list, unhide it in Settings, clear the filter, and hide it again.
Key Takeaways
- Raid attackers now show their tier and rank on the details screen, with a toggle for rankings with or without Megas and Primals.
- Use the no-Megas view when deciding what to power up, since that’s the list you’re filling most of your team from.
- Male and Female are trackable variants, and each species only shows the genders it comes in.
- Swipe between Pokémon on the details screen, on both iOS and Android.
- What’s New in the menu shows a badge when there’s a new update post to read.
The update is live now. If you’ve got a raid weekend coming up, it’s worth running your attackers through the new rankings first.
