Yveltal is a Dark / Flying Legendary that appears in five-star raids. It is weak to Electric, Fairy, Ice and Rock attacks, and a 100% IV Yveltal from a raid is 2160 CP, or 2701 CP when weather boosted.
This Yveltal raid guide covers which counters to bring, how many players you need, and how weather changes both the fight and the catch.
When Yveltal Is in Raids
Yveltal is in five-star raids from Wednesday, October 7, 12:00 a.m. to Tuesday, October 13, 11:59 p.m. local time, according to the official events calendar. Its Raid Hour was on October 7. See the October 2026 Raid Hours guide for the rest of the month’s Legendaries, and the October 2026 Spotlight Hour schedule for Thursdays. Dialga takes over five-star raids on October 14; see the Dialga raid guide.
See the official events calendar for the current listing.
Yveltal Weaknesses and Confirmed Details
- Type: Dark / Flying.
- Weak to: Electric, Fairy, Ice and Rock. Each deals 1.6x damage.
- Resists: Dark, Ghost and Grass. Ground and Psychic deal even less damage, since Flying and Dark each resist one of them strongly.
- Weather boost for the catch: Windy and Fog.
- Best attacking types are boosted by: Rainy (Electric), Partly Cloudy (Rock), Cloudy (Fairy) and Snow (Ice). See the weather boost guide for the full mapping.
What isn’t stated
- The official listing doesn’t say whether Shiny odds are higher than a normal five-star raid.
- There is no official list of the raid boss’s moves. You see them when Yveltal uses them in battle.

Counter rankings are from the GO Hub Yveltal counters database.
Easier-to-build Yveltal counters
If you don’t have the Pokémon above, these non-Legendary options rank in GO Hub’s top 30:
- Electric: Shadow Electivire (Thunder Shock / Wild Charge), Shadow Magnezone (Volt Switch / Wild Charge).
- Rock: Shadow Rhyperior (Smack Down / Rock Wrecker), Shadow Rampardos (Smack Down / Rock Slide).
- Mega options: Mega Manectric (Thunder Fang / Wild Charge), Mega Ampharos (Volt Switch / Zap Cannon), Mega Aerodactyl (Rock Throw / Rock Slide).
Regular (non-Shadow) Electivire, Magnezone and Rhyperior still deal super effective damage, but they rank lower, so plan on bringing an extra player or two. For why the Shadow versions hit harder, see Shadow vs. Purified.
What the Community Has Documented
- Group size: GO Hub’s estimates put the minimum at 2 trainers with top counters, 3 to 5 as comfortable, and 6 or more as easy. Bring more if your counters are lower level.
- Estimates, not guarantees: GO Hub notes its faint and time-to-win numbers leave out Friendship and Mega damage boosts, so a real lobby usually goes faster than the simulation.
- Possible moves: GO Hub lists Yveltal’s moves as Snarl, Sucker Punch and Gust, plus Dark Pulse, Oblivion Wing, Hurricane, Psychic, Focus Blast and Hyper Beam. Electric attackers resist Flying moves, which is part of why they hold up well. Rock and Ice attackers take super effective damage from Focus Blast.
- Shiny odds: players have long reported Shiny Legendary raid odds of roughly 1 in 20.
- IV floor: raid catches are widely reported to have at least 10 in each IV. That puts an unboosted Yveltal between 2073 and 2160 CP, and a boosted one between 2591 and 2701 CP.
Practical Application: Pick Your Counters by the Weather
Weather affects the fight and the catch separately, so check it before you raid.
Example: it’s raining. Electric counters get a weather boost and hit harder, so a group of three with Electric attackers can finish faster. But Yveltal is not boosted in rain, so your catch is Level 20 with a maximum of 2160 CP. On a Windy or Foggy day the reverse happens: your Electric team loses its boost, but Yveltal is caught at Level 25 with a maximum of 2701 CP.
A few rules follow from this:
- Lead with Electric. It is the most represented type in the top counters and resists Yveltal’s Flying moves.
- Use your Mega first. A Mega Evolution boosts damage for everyone in the lobby, so activate it before joining.
- Check CP on the catch screen. 2160 (or 2701 when boosted) is a 100% IV Yveltal. Use a Golden Razz Berry if you see it.
- Raid in a group of three or more. Two is possible with top counters, but more players leave room for weaker teams.
- Go before Tuesday night. Raids end at 11:59 p.m. local on October 13.
Tracking Your Yveltal Catches
After a few raids it is easy to lose track of which Yveltal was the high-IV one, which you planned to power up, and which to transfer.
A tracker like GoDex helps. Scan a catch screenshot to read CP and IVs, tag the keeper, and mark a Shiny as soon as you get one.

- Raid with three or more players unless your counters are top tier.

- Look for 2160 or 2701 CP on the catch screen to spot a 100% IV Yveltal.
